Rain in Toronto on 17 August 2024, with the Adhan in the Background
Просмотров 6021 день назад
This rain was reportedly the heaviest to have fallen in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area since 2013. The adhan did not come from a mosque, but rather from an app on my phone (Prayer Times by ZeeDev, @zeeDevMobileApps ). The Hanafi time for the 'asr (late afternoon) prayer began while I was filming the rain; hence the adhan came on. I think it makes it more atmospheric. For my discussion-bas...

Idea of a unified Divinity there right in the Vedas, and much more manifest in Upanishads already(Ekamevadwitiyam: or One Without a Second), but the idea was not that it's a God divorced from Existence, rather the entire Existence is a manifestation of IT. And each person and object is not an "fragment" of it, but the whole of it entirely in a different frontal appearance.

The Hindu diaspora and the Indian diaspora are obviously not the same thing as each other. As Aditya points out, Hindus here in Canada can be from Bangladesh or Fiji or Mauritius (among other places), in addition to India (although the Hindus of the Caribbean or Pacific islands are usually themselves ultimately of Indian ancestry). On the other hand, the Indian diaspora in any given country can consist of Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and others in addition to Hindus. Here's a recent article by Soutik Biswas for the BBC, which delves into the relationship between first-generation Indian Hindu emigrants and first-generation emigrants from India in general, and makes similar comparisons for Bangladesh as well, on the basis of data from the Pew Forum: www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm23n23dwx3o

Any form of Sufism that doesn’t align with the principles of Quran and Sunnah is actually shaawadah. Unfortunately, we see a lot of shaawadah in the name of Sufism. لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله

Kardeşim, of course one has to be careful to stay within the bounds set by God and His Messenger (pbuh). But, alhamdu lillah, in my experience with several turuq in Montreal, in particular the Naqshbandiyya, whose mosque I attended from 2010 until 2019, what they promote is dhikru 'Llah, tazkiyat al-nafs, and love for God, His Messenger (pbuh), and God's creation. The dhikr that is performed there twice a week consists of istighfar, several surahs from the Qur'an, the repetition of the Names of God, and salawat on the Prophet (pbuh). As you can see, it is indeed derived from the Qur'an and the sunnah. I also attended the mosque of the Ba'Alawiyya once in a while. The imam there, Shaykh Hamdi Ben Aissa, is a student of Habib Umar bin Hafiz from Yemen, and Shaykh Yahya Rhodus, who, as you know, is teaching one of the Ramadan Live classes, is also a student of Habib Umar and a member of the Ba'Alawiyya. Moreover, Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad was a student of the late Habib Ahmad Mashhur al-Haddad of the Ba'Alawiyya. Meanwhile, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf is a student of Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah from Mauritania, who stresses the importance of tasawwuf. In Islamic history, the Ottoman sultans used to either have teachers who were Sufi shaykhs, or else they were themselves affiliated with turuq. Sultan Mehmet II, who conquered Constantinople, was a student of a Naqshbandi shaykh called Akşemseddin. More recently, Sultan Abdülhamid II, who reigned from 1876 to 1909, was himself a member of the Shadhiliyya Madaniyya, even though he was the caliph and didn't need to place himself under any shaykh. Earlier tonight, Shaykh Hisham Hellyer gave us the English translation of al-Salat al-Fatihi (اللهم صل على سيدنا محمد الفاتح لما أغلق والخاتم لما سبق ناصر الحق بالحق والهادي إلى صراطك المستقيم وعلى آله حق قدره ومقداره العظيم). This blessing on the Prophet (pbuh) is transmitted by the Tijaniyya, and they believe that the late Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani received it from the Prophet (pbuh) himself in a vision. I used to recite al-Salat al-Fatihi with the Tijanis while attending their dhikr sessions in Montreal. In an interview Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad once gave, he says, "If you look at the Ottoman Empire, for example, nobody ever was ‘against’ Sufism. This concept of Islam being anti-Sufi is there because of Saudi puritanism. But that’s a very recent evolution. And even Saudi Arabia is full of Sufis. If you have not seen the saint, you have not seen the sunna. But it's above all important to remember that it’s not so much about Sufism itself. Sufism is just a name. The ultimate proof of the religion is the saints. They are the miraculous expressions of divine love. As such, the saint in Islam is the one who shows you the greatness of the prophet because his life meticulously conforms to the last detail of the sunna out of total love and surrender. The self is gone and only the prophetic form remains. The dignity, the ancient wisdom, the selflessness, the love for others… you see it in the prophet and you see it in the saint. So the saints remind us that religion is about consciousness and remembrance now and in every moment. They remind us that it’s about constantly being in God. When you see them, you discover what love is really all about. Like I often say: 'If you have not seen the saint, you have not seen the sunna.'" You can read the rest of the interview here: www.halalmonk.com/abdal-hakim-murad-authority-within-islam If you visit Montreal sometime once the pandemic is over, you can pay a visit to the gathering places of the different turuq, if you like, such as the Naqshbandi one, at 138, av. Fairmount O. In sha' Allah you will find it to be a place of love and illumination, as I have.

However, I skimmed and scanned the preview on Kobo and watched the interview with Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad. I would love to participate in a book talk to discuss the issues we are facing as Muslims, the 21 century. Thank you for the information regarding the noun Kardaş. I am studying Turkish, it is such a beautiful language. My plan is to go to Konya and visit Mawlana Rumi ‘came’. Have you been there? I’ve been watching Ertugrul and Othoman series. I am so impressed how Erdogan is working so hard for Islam revival in Turkey. He’s making me proud in a time when Islam is being under continuous attacks. May Allah bless him. It’s prayer time for me now. I hope you are able to join Midnight Moments session tonight. Görüşürüz
